A Rainy Downtown Lancaster Micro Wedding | Blake & Melissa’s Courthouse Elopement + with Portraits at Long’s Park
Overcast days always have me reflecting on how vibrant the people in front of my lens feel when the world around us feels so gloomy and grey. I met Melissa & Blake on an especially overcast March day to capture some portraits around downtown Lancaster before their courthouse ceremony and the chemistry these two share made March feel like spring in full bloom. We tucked ourselves away in the quiet nook that Steinman Park provides to kick off our time together before exploring some quieter streets around Lancaster City to maintain a sense of privacy and intimacy for them as we captured some sweet moments together. Intentionally shifting our locations to quieter areas, coupled with the gloomy March skies truly had Melissa & Blake’s easygoing nature together shining through so beautifully.
A Relaxed Lancaster Micro Wedding Full of Real Joy
From our first phone call, it was easy to tell how much joy Blake & Melissa bring out in each other, it had me so excited to capture that feeling on camera. The way they spoke about their relationship was easy, genuine, and full of laughter, you could tell how much they enjoyed doing life together and it was lovely. That same energy carried into their wedding day in the most natural way.
We chatted a lot about how in the past they felt awkward in photos and they wanted to lean into truly just feeling like themselves. As soon as we started shooting together, it was clear to me how effortless their chemistry felt so I worked to give them direction and prompts that held space for that to take center stage.
Downtown Lancaster Couples Photos Before the Ceremony
We began their wedding day with a couples session in downtown Lancaster, the gray skies made the tones of the city feel moodier and more timeless, and it gave the photos a romantic, cinematic feel.
Melissa’s personal style added so much character to the day. Her love of thrifting and all things vintage showed through in every detail—especially with her blue raincoat, lace tights, and slingback kitten heels. She looked like she stepped out of a classic romance film, and it felt positively swoon worthy as we wandered the rain kissed streets of Lancaster city together.
A Lancaster Courthouse Wedding Ceremony
After portraits downtown, they headed to the Lancaster courthouse for their private ceremony. Their courthouse ceremony was intimate, with their parents there to witness them officially become husband and wife. There’s something incredibly powerful about that kind of setting—quiet, meaningful, and focused on what marriage actually is.
Long’s Park Family Photos & Vows in the Rain
After the ceremony, I met them at Long’s Park in Lancaster for family photos and part two of their portraits.
Melissa was sporting her vintage mini dress for this portion which gave us so much variation between the park and the city. With the rain the park had gotten a little soft so she had brought a back up pair of green rainboots to wear for the occasion and it truly made a perfect spring wedding outfit with her red tulips. The park was soft and muted, and the overcast sky made everything feel peaceful and calm.
At Long’s Park, Blake & Melissa exchanged vows, celebrated with a champagne toast, and spent time taking candid photos with their family. They also took a few classic family portraits—simple, timeless images that will only become more meaningful with time.
Even with the rain, the day never felt stressful. If anything, it made everything feel more intentional. Less rushed. More grounded. More focused on the love and the people surrounding them.
